I have seen several analysts who believe that the number of patents in this area indicate that our economy is too narrowly focused on a limited number of products. When 1/6 of all patents are focused on consumer electronics, you have to wonder about the other sectors of the economy.
It is marvelous that we have the massive innovation in electronics. Prices are not dropping, they are plummeting, and competition is burning hot. Perhaps one day all that innovation can be aimed at something that improves productivity.
